The California punk band NOFX and their lead singer, Fat Mike, have had some controversy over one of their newest songs, Creeping Out Sara from the new album, Coaster. If you don’t know, Spin.com describes the as a “Canadian duo of singing lesbian twins”. I completely disagree with them. If you want, you can check out the article entitled, “Exclusive Song: NOFX Dis Tegan and Sara: Cocaine? Angelina Jolie? Incest!?! The skate-punk veterans take aim at Canada’s singing lesbian sisters. Listen here!” http://www.spin.com/articles/exclusive-song-nofx-dis-tegan-and-sara I personally love this album and song, and find nothing wrong with it. NOFX is and always will be one of my favorite bands. So, Fat Mike… if you’re reading this, good job. :). You can see it right here from Bandew444 TV. In the Fat Wreck Chords newsletter, it said,
“Just for the record I wanted to say that I wrote the song, “Creeping Out Sara” to be funny and offensive and even a bit danceable. There seemed to be no problem, until a couple of magazines printed that NOFX were dissing Tegan and Sara in the song. Totally backwards. I was dissing myself in this song. I like Tegan and Sara and Sara was a total sweetheart when we met and talked that day I sing about in the song. The next day I felt like a total creep, so I wrote a song about how lame and inappropriate some of my questions were. So yes, there is offensiveness and disrespect in the song, but it’s all directed at me, Fat Mike (Drunken Creep, opponent of Prop 8, Morman church hater, and proud writer of many offensive songs).
Now Iron Maiden on the other hand…”
I don’t see why anyone would find this offensive toward Sara and/or Tegan either. NOFX has had plenty of offensive songs, yet, I haven’t heard anything about them. I think people are just to critical about this kind of stuff. I, well, I just don’t understand.
